String, woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists, ages 7-18, who are interested in advancing their musical skills, are invited to audition for membership in Oakland Youth Orchestras (OYO).
OYO is a premier Southeast Michigan Youth Orchestra that serves 350 students in grades two through twelve from 35 communities and seven counties. Merit and financial-need scholarships are available.
Audition sign-up for 2024-2025, OYO’s 50th season, is going on now and extends through May 11, 2024. For details about the orchestras and audition schedule visit: oyomi.org/join-oyo/auditions/.
Auditions will be held in person at Oakland University Varner Hall. All prospective members must audition for placement into one of OYO’s four orchestras.
“I loved being able to come to an environment where everyone was so musically motivated and ready to be challenged. The best feelings definitely were right after the concert when all our hard work finally came together.”–Isabella Lebert, six year OYO violist.
Join OYO and celebrate 50 years of educating and enriching youth through music. For this special anniversary, OYO commissioned world renowned composer, Catherine McMichael, to write a symphony. The orchestras of OYO will premiere this piece in the upcoming 2024-2025 season.
McMichael is a Michigan resident whose music reaches across six continents, innumerable students, and professional artists. Five publishers distribute her various pieces, from flute ensembles, piano, string chamber music, symphonic, band, and concert-length choral works.
